Coundon Court School, an academy in Coventry, has undergone a major redevelopment as part of the Department for Education's 10-year Schools Rebuilding Programme. The project aims to create a modern campus feel while respecting the school's heritage buildings and nearby green belt areas.
The project involves demolishing six existing blocks and replacing them with three new state-of-the-art, net-zero carbon in operation teaching buildings. Four teaching blocks and two locally listed buildings (Old House and Coundon Court Lodge) will be retained.
Appointed by Wates Construction, McCoy Contractors have completed the groundworks package for both Block 1 and Block 2.
The scope of works for the 3500m2 project include:
One of the major challenges is the existing school is operational so fences, barriers, temporary rigs and phased works were required to ensure a safe learning environment. There were also changes to internal circulation routes, site drainage, landscaping and parking provisions together with temporary classrooms for use throughout the construction period.
